Title | Lifting functionals defined on maps to measure-valued maps |
Abstract | How can one lift a functional defined on maps from a space X to a space Y into a functional defined on maps from X into P(Y) the space of probability distributions over Y? E.g., how to define a Dirichlet energy for measure-valued maps? Looking at measure-valued maps can be interpreted as knowing a classical map with uncertainty, and from an optimization point of view the main gain is the convexification of Y into P(Y). I will explain how this problem is linked to optimal transport (with an infinity of marginals!) and discuss how to characterize the different liftings which have been proposed in the literature. |
Notes | This event takes place in hybrid form (in person and online on Zoom). Slides and additional materials are available on the Moodle service of the University of Vienna. If you want additional details (for example, if you want to attend an event online and would like to receive the Zoom link), please write an email to matteo.tommasini@univie.ac.at.
