Joint PhD and post-doc call of the SFB 65 "Taming Complexity in Partial Differential Systems"


The SFB 65 is
a large-scale project focusing on the solution of PDEs describing the behavior of complex systems from Physics, Biology, and Technologies.
The SFB consists of a strongly connected research network embodied by researchers at all career levels, based at the University of Vienna, TU Wien, and the Institute of Science and Technology (IST) Austria.

In the framework of the SFB, the following
7 positions
are currently open. Each position is based in one of the various Project Parts of the SFB, with possible collaboration with other Project Parts.

Description of this position

All positions are based in Vienna (either at the University of Vienna or at TU Wien); appointments are all funded by the F65 grant from the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and do not involve any teaching duties.

Applicants for the Post-doc and PhD-student positions must have or be close to obtain a PhD or a Master, respectively, in Mathematical Sciences or related fields. Further details about the expertise required for the various positions, as well as on the duration of contract and preferred start date can be found in the individual job descriptions listed above.

PhD students will be enrolled in the corresponding doctoral school of the University of Vienna, respectively of TU Wien (link), and they may be entitled to join the Vienna School of Mathematics, which provides enhanced training and additional travel funding.

The annual salaries are approximately:
  • 30k € gross (corresponding to approx. 23k € net salary) for the PhD positions (30 hours/week);
  • 54k € gross (corresponding to approx. 36k € net salary) for the post-doc positions (40 hours/week)
(these are the standard salaries for PhD and post-doc positions funded by the FWF).
